Framed Quilt Square

What: The Hartsville Hill Church
Who: Judith Finlay

The Hartsville Hill Church was built by a group of Seventh Day Baptists in 1856. It was a wooden structure measuring 30’ x 46’ and dedicated on October 2, 1856. At that time Hiram P. Burdick was Pastor. The church was located at the crossroads on top of Hartsville Hill in Steuben County. Unused for many years, the church was totally destroyed by fire the night of August 15, 1966. The appliquéd and embroidered square of the church was made by the youngest of the community quilters and framed by Paul Miller of Waterwells Road in Alfred.
