Parking & Your Vehicle

Parking your car!

Parking on campus, especially early in the semester, can be a challenge…. Here are some helpful hints to make commuting a pleasant experience:

· Any student parking space on campus (senior lots, freshman lots, and commuter lots) is available to commuter students during daylight hours.

· Make sure you obtain your parking permit from the University Police, located in the Victorian House, soon. Ticketing will begin soon after the academic year begins!!

· Don’t park in faculty/staff or handicapped spaces, or on sidewalks, driveways, or the lawn (no matter how late you are!!!!!).

· Cruising for a parking space near your classroom can actually take more time (and gas) than parking and walking.

· Be prepared for flat tires and dead batteries in your own driveway. Have a contingency plan for transportation to campus!!

· The campus loop road bus runs on a convenient schedule to help you up and down those hills.

· Make sure you take care of any parking tickets right away. Unpaid tickets multiply like rabbits and soon you could end up owing more than you have!!

· Tickets that you feel are unjustified can be appealed under certain conditions to a faculty arbiter. Check with University Police, located in the Victorian House for further information.

· Whenever you can, carpool. It saves gas, allows you to meet new people, reduces campus parking congestion, and guarantees that at least one car is running that day.

Registering Your Vehicle and Parking Violations

How do I get a parking sticker…? Where do I get it from…?

How much will it cost…?1

Student parking permits are purchased in either of two ways. One, you can simply leave the charge on your college bill, pay the bill either through your personal payment or with financial aid and bingo… you’re in the system.  Or, you can make payment ($50) after registration at the Student Accounts office, located in the ASCUS Center  and again, you’re in the system.

Once you have paid, you can obtain your parking permit at the University Police Office at the Victorian House.  You may come in to get your permit anytime after 8:30 a.m.  While the lunch hour is a convenient time for most people, please be advised that staffing is short at that time and you may have a  wait.

NOTE:  Fines for parking tickets have been raised.  All tickets are now $25 with the exception of handicapped spaces which are $45, fire lanes which are $35, and parking meters which are $10.

Good luck! Get that car registered! Remember the tips noted above!
