I am Professor
of Biology and Interim Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Alfred
State College (also known as SUNY College of Technology at Alfred).
Courses I have recently taught include General Biology, Genetics,
and Introductory Chemistry.
In the rest of my life, I am husband to Laurel ( music
instructor and carillonneur
at Alfred University ), and father
of five daughters.

- church activities. I am
a member of Sojourners
Mennonite Fellowship in Houghton, NY, an elder at Union University Church,
Alfred, NY, and bookkeeper
/ webmaster for New York

Conference
- music. I enjoy a
capella vocal, play the viola, and listen
to a wide variety of styles. I sing baritone in Alfred State's Faculty Men's Quartet , and am a member of
the Orpheus Chorale.
- outdoor activities. These include hiking, camping, and
gardening.
- travel. My entire family took a month-long road trip to Alaska in the summer of
2002. Over spring break in 2006 I co-led an Alfred State College work
crew that participated in post-Katrina
cleanup near New Orleans. I have coordinated and led five tropical
ecology field trips to
Costa Rica , in 1999, 2001, 2003
, 2005
, and 2007.
I am
planning the
next for spring break, March 2009.
